On the A3 freeway near the Offenbach junction, a new bridge was built for the replacement of the freeway overpass. For this new construction, a total of three excavation pits were required in axes 10, 20 and 30, which were constructed with sheet pile sections from thyssenkrupp Infrastructure.
The challenge lay not so much in supplying the material but in the ambitiously short time frame from order to delivery. The client wanted to have the excavations completed before the Christmas holidays.
Around 360 tons worth of tkL 605, 606 and 607 sheet piling sections up to 15 meters in length including sealant and corner structures were needed at the construction site for axes 10 and 30 in less than two weeks after the order was placed. Some of the sections were in stock at the warehouse in Schaafheim, while others first had to be made ready at the plant in Ostrava in the Czech Republic, shipped and later processed in the warehouse.
The first delivery was scheduled for December 9, 2020, but actually arrived as early as December 7. The final delivery was made on December 16. All in all, only one and a half weeks were needed for the just-in-time deliveries and the excavations were completed as requested. The final 100 tons of tkL 605 for axis 20 were delivered on schedule in March 2021.
