Extension to protective pier and boathouse
Extensive work has been carried out on the premises of the Schwerin “Water Police” (Wasserschutzpolizei/WSP) – located on the Swan Peninsula (Schwanenhalbinsel) on the western shore of Lake Schwerin – to extend the protective pier, enlarge the boathouse to create a mooring berth, install an emergency generator and ensure traffic safety around the existing slipway.
The boathouse of Schwerin’s WSP is built on a sheet-piling-encased reclaimed peninsula on Lake Schwerin, close to the ‘Waisengärten’ residential district. It rests on deep steel pile foundations. The boathouse enlargement called for additional steel pile foundation work involving two tkL 603 sheet piles. The foundations were installed using four driving elements and 11.50 m long piles.
The existing pier was extended in particular to calm the waters around the entrance to the WSP’s boathouse. This pier is made from anchored Larssen sheet pile walls and has been extended southwards by around 15 meters to minimize waves in the harbor basin and make it easier to access the boathouse. Driving of the sheet piles for the pier extension, the foundations for the boathouse enlargement and the mooring piles was mainly carried out from a pontoon.
Our customer Tauchunternehmen Babbel GmbH obtained the sections, the structural materials and the machinery from thyssenkrupp Infrastructure. As a system supplier we were able to offer the customer all required products from a single source. The work was carried out in October 2020.
