Drainage system
All specifications well met
Almost 2 kilometers of the drainage system along the A7 highway towards Flensburg needed to be renewed. The drainage system along the unusually low-lying road surface had been leaking, causing drainage pipes to become clogged, with the result that soil below the surface had been washed out, leading to bumps in the road surface that posed a danger to traffic in general, but particularly for heavy goods vehicles.
The Schleswig-Holstein state road-building and traffic authority therefore decided to renovate the system. The call for tenders prescribed a number of speci cations for the shoring, which needed to satisfy very strict structural requirements. In order to secure the construction pit, Groth & Co., the contractor, therefore selected the overlapping Linear Shoring system from Emunds+Staudinger, a proprietary brand of thyssenkrupp Infrastructure.
The highly robust system proved to be a good choice, particularly when it came to securing the construction pit in the vicinity of a bridge abutment, where the entire load was transferred by the shoring during that stage of construction.
Exceptional stability required: The shoring system handled the entire load transfer during work around the bridge abutment.
Highly stable shoring required
Among other qualities, the call for tenders demanded strength and stability – an important factor, as a bridge with shallow foundations was located very near the construction project. With the Emunds+Staudinger Linear Shoring system, the shoring panels are not slotted into the shoring soldiers, but swung in from the side, which was a highly crucial advantage when securing the construction pit nearby the bridge.
Compared with other systems, this approach is not only faster, but also less dangerous. It was necessary to secure a pit 3 metres wide and 7 metres deep in order to lay the pipes. Most of the work was completed using 4 metres long units. However, around the bridge, the distance between the shoring soldiers was slightly reduced for structural reasons and 3 metres long panels were deployed. The shoring system met the specifications of the Schleswig-Holstein highway road works with ying colors and all those involved were satisfied with the work, which was, incidentally, completed on time.
