Linear shoring is suitable for casting concrete in-situ place and can be flexibly adapted to any construction project. The ground outside the trench remains largely unaffected, and buildings and traffic flow are not impaired – a level of performance that was long-considered unattainable.

On linear shoring, rigid carriages cars that are height-adjusted to match the increasing depth keep the beams and shoring panels at the same distance apart at all times; the trench width remains unchanged at all stages of the project. The width of the rigid frame is adapted with spreaders to the desired trench width. The carriage maintains precise right angles – everything stays linearly aligned, always at the same distance from the opposite side. This ensures more efficient, faster, better-quality, and noticeably more cost-effective operations, with a major advantage of the system being derived from the design of the beam. For only on the linear shoring system is it possible to pivot in the shoring panels from the side.

In urban areas, trench sections crossed by numerous pipes and cables are commonplace. Using large-area shoring systems is then out of the question. The solution is inner-city linear shoring that combines the piling frame element for guiding sheet piles with the components of the linear shoring system.

By using piling frame elements, linear shoring with single or double slide-rails provides a solution even in those areas where gas or water mains or other service pipes cross the trench. The shoring modules and the piles themselves are lowered largely low-vibration – an important precondition for digging work in towns which usually involves traffic routes and building structures close to the trench.

  • Length slide rail: 4.13 m
  • Height sheet pile element: 1.00 m

Corner rail shoring is a special shoring solution, suitable among other things for work on manholes. When used as manhole shoring, it usually consists of four slide-rail panels and four corner rail beams.

It does not require special bracing systems, and all forces are retained by the shoring panels. With suitable beams, Corner rail shoring can take the form of single-rail or overlapping shoring. Since the panels of various lengths are used in pairs, rectangular pits of different sizes can be constructed.

With the cross rail available in a beam length of 4.13 m, it is possible to guide the shoring around corners. As a further development of the corner rail, it ensures maximum flexibility in the trench: supply lines to manholes and collecting systems, and branches and expansion tanks of district heating lines can be laid more easily and at less expense. In the course of soil replacement measures, the area affected can be simply divided into quadrants that are processed in succession.

The shoring panels can be raised in the cross rail to suit the structural needs – this creates sufficient vertical clearance for the laying of pipes and other work at the base of the trench.

Suitable for concrete poured in situ, linear shoring can be adapted flexibly to suit project requirements and leaves the soil outside the trench largely unaffected, with no adverse impact on buildings and traffic flow. The use of overlapping linear shoring is also a benefit when operating at greater depths.

The inner and outer panels are held in vertically installed rails so that they can slide past each other. Since the extraction forces are much lower than on most other shoring systems, this improves the overall economy of the system, particularly in deeper trenches. Rigid boogie cars, height-adjustable to suit the increasing depth of the excavation, keep the beams and shoring panels at a uniform distance apart, and the trench width stays the same at all stages of the project. This noticeably improves the efficiency, speed, quality and cost-effectiveness of the process, with a key benefit of the system being contributed by the design of the beam, i.e. only with linear shoring is it possible to pivot the shoring panels in from the side.

Basic data

  • Module length: 2.25 m – 6.50 m
  • Length slide rail: 5.13 m – 9.13 m

In urban areas, trench sections crossed by numerous pipes and cables are commonplace. The use of large-area shoring systems is therefore out of the question. The solution for excavation projects at greater depth is overlapping inner-city linear shoring that works on the much same principle as overlapping linear shoring. Overlapping short piles are guided in overlapping piling frame elements. The result is two overlapping walls of sheet piling that can be raised independently of one another.

By using piling frame elements, linear shoring with single or double slide-rails provides a solution even in those areas where gas or water mains or other service pipes cross the trench. The shoring modules and the piles themselves are lowered with very little vibration – an important precondition for civil engineering work in urban areas.

Deep linear shoring, on which two shoring units are connected together, combines the advantages of the linear shoring system to form a high-performance functional principle. In the first step, one linear shoring module – consisting of linear shoring beams, panels and boogie cars – is installed. Then a second module is inserted in the already occupied trench and adapted as an inner module in a close fit inside the outer module. Using this method, the inner shoring components take up the soil pressure as they pass through the outer module. If lowered further, the loads are taken up again by the first module. In their installed state, the two shoring modules, the components of which are of the same length, complement each other in taking up the soil pressure totally independently.

Deep linear shoring was specially developed for applications at special depths, e.g. for the construction of sewers, manholes, or launch pits. By combining two linear shoring beams, and depending on the nature of the ground, depths of well over 10 m can be achieved, while the technical advantages of the linear shoring system are fully exploited.

End shoring with sheet piles is recommended particularly for launch pits. As an alternative to end shoring with large-area panels, sheet piles are used. These serve as the thrust wall for the pipe jacking and also create an opening for pipe insertion.

Since sheet piles at the end of the trench must never discharge their loads via the shoring’s strut system, the loads are discharged via specially extendable cross members mounted in the vertical shoring rail.

As an alternative to large-area panels or sheet piles, standard slide-rail panels can also be used for head shoring. In accordance with the existing cone of slope, these are inserted as late as possible with the placement or dig-and-push method. The panels are braced against the vertical shoring rails and guided transversely by the bulge of the outer panels.

Using a standard slide-rail panel as end shoring is much faster and easier than the installation of sheet piles and is suitable for pits of low width and depth.

Our innovative trench end shoring boogie car can handle both the compressive forces exerted from the long sides of the trench shoring and the pressure from the front, which means the sheet piles can now lean directly against the boogie car and the pressure is transferred to the shoring.

Whenever it is a question of using linear shoring to create plenty of work space, using an outer waler fastener proves to be the best solution. Outer waler fasteners permit the creation of large installation windows over two to three module lengths for the installation of, for instance, cisterns, long pipes, tanks, large manholes and retention basins.

The attachment of the longitudinal outer waler and bracing the base of the middle pair of beams create the conditions for the installation of large items. Given suitable preparations, the middle boogie cars can be withdrawn completely from the trench. The beam construction attached to the outside takes up all the loads during this phase of the project.

e+s linear shoring

Cost-effective laying of cables and pipes: e+s trench boxes.

The e+s trench boxes of the Lightweight (LBR), Medium, and Magnum classes make it possible to lay pipes with unusually large diameters or lengths particularly cost-effectively. Outstanding performance factors are, for example, shoring heights of up to 6 meters, possible trench widths of over 5 meters, and vertical pipe clearances of up to 2.46 meters. The strong strut systems can handle large widths and are compatible with all three box systems.

Lightweight-boxes LBR

LBR Lightweight shoring covers the whole range of applications in urban civil engineering projects, particularly the laying of cables and pipes for electricity, gas and water. Depending on the structural requirements and the conditions on site locally, the Lightweight box is either dropped into the finished trench or lowered using the dig-and-push method.

Lightweight shoring is the smallest and lightest trench box in the e+s range. It can be equipped with the high-performance system strut that is also used with Medium and Magnum boxes. The combination of base and top panels permits the shoring of trenches up to 4 m deep. As with all top panels, assembly is simple, quick, but nevertheless safe. Connections with posts and pins eliminate the risk of error.

Basic data

  • Shoring length: 2.00 m – 3.50 m
  • Height base unit: 1.60 m / 1.95 m / 2.25 m / 2.40 m
  • Height top unit: 0.96 m / 1.32 m
  • Pipe culvert height: 0.81 m / 1.16 m / 1.19 m / 1.34 m

Medium-boxes

On the market for medium-sized products, Medium shoring from Emunds+Staudinger occupies a special place. Its various dimensions and special design features give it universal and varied applications. In addition, the strut system is compatible with Magnum and Lightweight shoring. The top panels can also be used with the Magnum shoring system.

The e+s strut system consists of two efficient individual components: The nut made of nodular cast-iron (GGG 50) effectively withstands the tensile and compressive forces. The spindle is a threaded tube with a friction-welded flange and four holes for the flange bolts. Thanks to its stepless adjustment, it can be adapted perfectly to the demanded trench width required. For this, there are extension bars of different lengths and grades that are also capable of discharging greater loads.

Basic data

  • Shoring length: 2.00 m – 4.50 m
  • Height base unit: 2.60 m

Magnum-boxes

The boxes of the Medium and Magnum class keep the project running smoothly and cost-effectively, particularly when pipes with large diameters or lengths have to be laid. The edge-supported box system scores with a large pipe clearance between the bottom strut and the shoring panel below it. This simplifies the installation of pipes with nominal widths up to 2,500 mm. For construction projects involving pipes greater than 6 m in length, the Magnum boxes with large panel lengths are an ideal choice.

The top panels of the Magnum boxes are compatible with the Medium shoring system and can be also used there as top panels. The strut system is identical to that of Lightweight and Medium shoring with full compatibility.

Basic data

  • Shoring length: 2.00 m – 6.84 m
  • Height base unit: 3.15 m / 4.00 m
  • Height top unit: 1.32 m / 1.44 m / 2.00 m

The Linear box shoring system is a combination of slide-rail shoring and box shoring. The trench box is largely immune to subsidence and capable of adapting to a wide range of site conditions. Thanks to the vertically displaceable boogie car on the principle of the linear shoring system, the shoring is extremely versatile. Among other things, it enables stepless pipe culvert heights.

Like all e+s box systems, the linear box is transported and supplied in its fully assembled state so that only the extension bars have to be fitted to achieve the desired trench width. To increase the height, a top unit compatible with Medium and Magnum Shoring with struts can be used.

The Dragbox was developed for shoring projects carried out exclusively in open and mainly unbuilt-up terrain. The space available in the Dragbox and the installed towing panel is used for pipe-laying. Once the pipe has been laid, the excavator drags the Dragbox forward by the towing panel for the next pipe-laying cycle. To stabilize the system and for reasons of structural strength, the Dragbox has an extremely sturdy horizontal connecting element that keeps the two shoring panels the right distance apart. If necessary, it can be extended using special extension bars. Elongated cutting shoes attached to the front edge of the shoring panels aid the dragging process.

By redesigning the towing panel in a triangular shape, the efficiency of the Dragbox has been enhanced still further. During pipe-laying, working on compacting the backfill against the ground can start at the exposed face of the angled towing panel.

Basic data

  • Shoring depth: max. 4.00 m
  • Panel length: 3.70 m / 5.08 m
  • Base panel height: 3.00 m / 3.15 m

On the same principle as the outer waler fastener on linear shoring, the large opening in the boxes over two to three module lengths permits the installation of, for instance, cisterns, long pipes, tanks, large manholes and retention basins.

The conditions are created for this on the site with the attachment of the longitudinal outer waler and steel-girder or concrete-slab support for the base of the beams in the relevant areas.
